Caring for someone with dementia is physically and emotionally relentless, and it does not stop at night. If you need a break — for surgery, for a trip, for a funeral, or because you have simply run out of road — that is not a failure of love. It is the reason respite care exists.
Respite is a short stay in our home. Your family member gets a private room and the same care our long-term residents get, for as long as you need it.

A respite resident is not a guest parked in a spare room. They get the same day-to-day support as anyone else living here — help with dressing, bathing, grooming, and getting around, and home-cooked meals. Ask us exactly what that covers for your family member, including how medication is handled and who is here overnight. We’d rather answer that on the phone than have you read it off a website.
They can take part in whatever is happening that day: the secure garden, gentle movement, music, sensory activities, and the company. Or not, if a quiet few days is what they need.
Because we are a residential home rather than a large community, respite stays depend on a room being free. Call and ask — we will tell you straight away what is possible and what it would involve.

A change of place can be unsettling for someone living with dementia, and it is fair to weigh that. Familiar objects help more than people expect — a favorite quilt, photographs, a good lamp, a clock. What often helps most is telling us about their routine before they arrive, so we can keep the shape of the day close to the one they know.
Sometimes. Families occasionally use a respite stay to find out whether residential care is right before committing to it, and that is a reasonable way to use it. It depends on a room being available. Say up front if that is what you are thinking, so nobody is guessing.
